Dems maintain wide voter registration lead

Democrats continue to outnumber Republicans by more than 100,000 voters in Iowa, according to figures released this week by the Iowa Secretary of State.
As of Aug. 3, there were 683,117 active Democrats compared to 577,223. The largest group of voters, however, was registered as “no party” and totaled 697,512.


46,000 Iowans registered to vote on Election Day

Roughly 3 percent of Iowans who voted in the 2008 general election took advantage of a new law allowing Election Day registration, AP’s Mike Glover reports.
And, according to Iowa Secretary of State Mike Mauro, there were few problems associated with the new way of registering.
