Civic Skinny, the political gossip column published every week in Des Moines’ alternative newsweekly (Cityview), says sources inside the Iowa Democratic Party expect Lt. Gov. Patty Judge to become the party’s next chair.
The idea, Skinny says, is that the move would bolster Gov. Chet Culver’s standing leading up to his re-election bid in 2010.

After the Iowa Independent published an interview with Dave Nagle in which the former congressman and Iowa Democratic Party Chair said Sen. Barack Obama was “throwing Iowa under the bus” with his proposed DNC calendar commission, the Des Moines Register’s Tom Beaumont published a story in which other top Democrats sounded a more reassuring note:

Iowa Democratic Party Chair Scott Brennan endorsed Barack Obama for president today. The endorsement leaves Senator Tom Harkin as Iowa’s only remaining uncommitted superdelegate.

“I honestly haven’t decided when I’ll say something,” Iowa Democratic Party chair Scott Brennan told party activists in Iowa City Sunday. As party chair, Brennan is also a national convention superdelegate, and he and Senator Tom Harkin are the only two Iowa superdelegates who are still uncommitted.
