Culver orders 10 percent budget cut; hundreds of layoffs likely

Gov. Chet Culver has ordered an across-the-board cut of the state’s budget of 10 percent, or about $600 million.


State revenue projection down $415 million

The Revenue Estimating Conference (REC) announced Wednesday state revenue for the 2010 budget year will be $5.438 billion, down $415 million since March.


State revenue higher than predicted for July

State revenue in July was up 1.2 percent compared with the same period last year and is ahead of projections made by the Revenue Estimating Conference (REC).

Gross general fund revenue receipts for July totaled $412.1 million — $4.7 million more than in July of last year.


Culver: Budget questions are ‘nothing we can’t deal with’

The 2009 budget will be balanced without a special session, and when previous budget cuts are coupled with a $440 cash reserve, the outlook for the 2010 budget is positive as well, Gov. Chet Culver said Wednesday.
