Deere & Co. officially announced Tuesday it will be laying off 700 of 1,000 workers at its Ottumwa plant.

Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks has earned the endorsement of the Ottumwa Courier, her hometown newspaper, in her bid to unseat first-term Democratic Congressman Dave Loebsack in the second district.

Sandbagging operations were taking place Wednesday in Ottumwa as residents were preparing for flooding of the Des Moines River.

Ottumwa was a community swelling with pride at a send-off ceremony Sunday for approximately 120 soldiers in the Iowa National Guard 833rd Engineer Company.
