Mike Huckabee at a public event Wednesday.

In defending his push for an executive order halting the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats mistakenly pointed to an order signed by former Democratic Gov. Tom Vilsack that was challenged but eventually upheld by the courts.

“Maybe Mr. Huckabee shouldn’t be raising money for an organization that says it won’t support the Republican nominee in Iowa,” said David Kochel, a veteran GOP strategist who has done consulting work for Terry Branstad’s campaign for a fifth term as governor.
