Harkin had the votes on EFCA in July

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin told a crowd of labor activists Thursday that he had amassed the 60 votes needed to pass a version of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) back in July but that Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy’s illness prevented him from casting the deciding vote.


One year later, workers still on strike in Muscatine

Not much has changed in the past year for 360 workers from Grain Processing Corporation in Muscatine.
On Aug. 22, 2008, the company and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 86D could not negotiate a new five-year contract. The workers were locked out, and continue to picket at various locations within the community.

ABI scoring rewards GOP legislators (again)
