The Des Moines Register announced today that Kathie Obradovich will be the paper’s next political columnist.
Obradovich, 44, has been the Register’s political editor since 2003, and she was a state government reporter and statehouse bureau chief before that.

Newspaper earnings continue to plunge

Davenport-based Lee Enterprises Inc., publisher of the Quad City Times, the Sioux City Journal and the Waterloo Courier, announced today that its second-quarter profit fell 87.4 percent mostly on one-time impairment charges.
