In this video, his ad hoc rock band jams for a few bars before Janet Huckabee takes the stage for an intro of her husband.  In honor of the presidential candidate, the drummer rewrote some lyrics to the classic “Sweet Home Chicago”:

“Going to the caucuses and don’t be late!”

Huckabee’s band played three songs in front of a large backdrop that read, “Enough is enough!”

He’s seen the candidate speak three times and said Huckabee has a very direct and personal connection with his audience.

Woods also talked about Huckabee’s decision to pull the plug on a negative ad before it was broadcast on Iowa TV stations.

He answered questions about a negative ad that he pulled before it was broadcast in Iowa and his upcoming appearance as a non-musical guest on Jay Leno’s television show in Burbank, California.

In this video, former governor Mike Huckabee responds to questions about his recent television commercial that he played for the press, but decided not to air.

With a big smile, Huckabee assured the press corps that they wouldn’t miss him while he was doing the Leno show.  He also hailed the program’s importance; it will be the first Leno show to be taped since a writer’s strike put the late night talk program (and others like it) on hiatus.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) today said the Republican presidential candidate to watch in Iowa and nationally is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee has been surging in polls and garnering more media attention.

“I tell you who you ought to keep your eye on,” Harkin said. “You ought to keep your eye on Mike Huckabee. I’m telling you, I think he could pull off some big surprises in the state of Iowa and beyond.”

Harkin — who himself has been a champion of fresh fruits and vegetables for schoolchildren and has gone so far as to take issue with Hollywood titans for their use of the cartoon character Shrek for marketing candy to kids – credits Huckabee with zeroing on preventative health measures in the campaign.

“I’ve talked to Mike about this on more than one occasion,” Harkin said. “He gets it and he’s coming, so I tell you: look out.”

Harkin is not similarly impressed with Huckabee’s plan to provide a one-time Social Security payout to seniors with a certain level of wealth, a vague plan Huckabee has talked about in debates and forums.

“I heard about it and it just sounds like something he just threw out there for something,” Harkin said. “That will not go anywhere. I can’t imagine that getting support from anybody. I didn’t say that I agree with everything. That’s sort of a wacky proposal. That’s not going anywhere.”
