In an interview with Radio Iowa’s O.Kay Henderson, U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, said he would be supporting California Congressman Dan Lungren in Wednesday’s vote for House Republican leadership.
“We’ve lost two elections in a row and we’ve lost 55 seats in the last 24 months and it’s time to put a new face on our leadership…With losses like this, we have to change course,” King said this afternoon during a telephone interview with Radio Iowa. “Lincoln went through seven generals before he found his General Grant and I think it’s time for us to look for a new general.”
According to his staff, Iowa’s other Republican member of Congress, Ames’ Tom Latham, is supporting Ohio Congressman John Boehner. Boehner has lead House Republicans since 2006. Most consider him the favorite to hold onto his job even though the party lost at least 20 seats this year. The second- and third-ranking members of the current GOP leadership team have already stepped aside.
