A recently introduced bill could have far-reaching impact on the U.S. sugar industry, including American Crystal Sugar, a farmer-owned cooperative that locked out 1,300 Midwest workers on Aug. 1.
The chairman for Herman Cain’s Iowa effort says the campaign “relied more on the word of farmers than Washington regulators” in deciding to run an ad containing claims the Environmental Protection Agency says are false.
The Iowa Senate will remain under the control of a slim 26-25 Democratic majority when it reconvenes in January 2012.
Congressman Steve King says results will come in the next few minutes.
Steve King says the State Auditor has gone over the results of the Straw Poll and that “this is the best system that’s out there; it has a tremendous amount of integrity…. So you know that when you get these results, they’re the ones that you can count on.”
“We’ve raised the standards as high as they can be for a Straw Poll,” he continues.
Results will be announced from last place to first place. “Some people will leave this city a little sad, but they can’t be sad about the effort,” King concluded.
And he keeps looking over to see if GOP official Ray Hoffman is ready to report the results, and Hoffman still isn’t there. So King is killing time.
Now he’s railing against “socialism” and “Democrats in Congress.” “On the judiciary committee one day I called them all a bunch of Marxists and they weren’t even offended!”
And he appears to just have contradicted the Republican Party of Iowa by claiming that there wasn’t a problem “with the computers or anything.”
