3:03 From the introduction, we find out that apparently many people think Tommy Thompson “was the most effective governor of the last 50 years.”

Also from the introduction, we find out that as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson helped the efforts on 9/11 and the efforts to fight terrorism.

Tommy Thompson’s video is very upbeat and set to rock music.  Not only is his section in front as full as necessary (for cameras to see them), but he has quite a few people standing and applauding him in the peanut gallery, where not everyone is a plant.

3:05 “It’s quite and honor to run for President of the United States.”

He launches into thank-yous.

3:06 He’s just coming off a 20-day trip through Iowa, and “Iowans are wonderful people.  Thank you to Iowa.”

“And by the way, isn’t it great to be a Republican.”

“We are the party of July 4 and the Democrats are the party of April 15, and don’t you forget it ladies and gentleman.”

“I didn’t become pro-life on the road to Des Moines for the presidency,” but he’s been pro-life his whole life.

Vetoed more than any governor before him.

“If congress passes the Fair Tax, ladies and gentleman, I will sign it before the ink is dry.”

“I’m a Republican that believes that our political party needs to get back to the basics…”

“I’m the only candidate talking about medicare — the fact that medicare is going broke in this country.”

3:08 Rails against Democrats’ plans for “socialized medicine.”

Thompson’s mother died of cancer, and he gets a bit teary talking about it.  “Let us marshall our forces…and let’s defeat cancer…”

3:11 Also very passionate about breaking “the umbilical cord” to the Middle East.  We need energy independence.

Also, to Democrats, “Let us drill in Alaska!!!”  [huge applause]

3:14 To immigration.  Secure borders.  Legal immigration good, illegal immigration bad.

“And I want to make sure that America is always safe, ladies and gentleman.”

Thompson went to Afganistan and was so disappointed by medical care women received that he went home, raised $2.5 million, and helped to rebuild a hospital in Afganistan.

Emphasizes words “conservative” and “solution.”  This is his recurring theme.

“I have worked hard to earn your support.”

With that, Thompson finishes.  Applause isn’t loud, but the number of people standing to applaud is notable.  Unless they are just standing in order to file out…
