The fallout of University of Iowa President Sally Mason’s recent firing of former general counsel Marcus Mills last week is beginning to rear its head among disgruntled faculty members. Tenured UI professor Michael Lewis-Beck said Mason’s credibility is “very low” among faculty after she fired Mills, The Press-Citizen reports.
“It is very low,” Michael Lewis-Beck, a political science professor and former department chairman, told The Press-Citizen. “She is going to have a hard time governing. Many faculty members have told me they are not going to work with her, not going to serve on her committees. Leaders can only lead if they have followers.”
