Presidential GOP candidate Fred Karger is filing an Federal Elections Commission complaint against Fox News after the media mogul declined to permit his participation in an Ames GOP debate last Thursday.

Karger, of Laguna Beach, Cali., will hand-deliver a letter with the complaint attached to Fox News headquarters in New York City Thursday, campaign spokeswoman Rina Shah said.
Fox News held the debate in conjunction with the Republican Party of Iowa and the Washington Examiner prior to the Ames Straw Poll. Candidates were welcome to participate so long as they met three criteria set by officials, including earning a one percent average in five national polls. Karger failed to meet that specific requirement by the deadline, debate officials said.
He fired back, launching a petition to supporters to let him debate with eight other GOP candidates, and said he had in fact earned more than the average from at least six national polls. His attempts were unsuccessful.
Karger is a political consultant and gay rights activist who came out as openly gay as an adult, and is the first reportedly openly gay presidential candidate in U.S. history. Though neither he nor the network have indicated his sexual orientation was a factor from being barred from the debate, Karger Tweeted Aug. 5, “We will not be treated differently anymore” when a petition for debate access was launched.
