Sgt. Terryl Pasker

IOWA NATIONAL GUARD RELEASE — Funeral services have been scheduled for Cedar Rapids resident Sgt. 1st Class Terryl L. Pasker. Pasker was an Iowa National Guard soldier killed during combat operations July 9 in Panjshir Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Co. B, 334th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division.

Visitation for Sgt. 1st Class Pasker will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, with the family present, at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2855 Katz Dr., Marion. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18, at the River of Life Ministries, 3801 Blairs Ferry Rd NE, Cedar Rapids. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, located at 375 32nd St. SE, Cedar Rapids.

Pasker was born Feb. 26, 1972 in Anamosa to David and Mary (Helms) Pasker. He graduated from Lisbon High School in December 2004 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was also a self-employed homebuilder.

Pasker is survived by his wife, Erica (Pratt) of Cedar Rapids; his mother and father, Mary and David Pasker of Blairstown; brother Andrew (Kim) Pasker of Lisbon; and sisters Christine (Gregory) Ross of Oakland, Tenn. and Rebecca (Brandon) Southard of Salem, Ore.; grandparents William and Rosemary Pasker; three nieces, three nephews and many other loving family members.

The family of Sgt. 1st Class Terryl Pasker issued the following statement:

Terry was the most steady, dependable person you could know. He was unwaveringly loyal to his friends and family, and would do anything for them. He was a very humble and unpretentious man, and those who knew him are proud to have been loved by him.

His absence will leave a gaping hole in our lives, but we have peace knowing that he loved God. Terry always expressed his faith in the way he lived his life; and now in the way he gave his life. He was proud to serve in the Army, and wanted nothing more than to be there for his soldiers. He would probably be embarrassed by the outpouring of love, respect and high honor he is receiving at this time, but there is no one more deserving than a man like Terryl Pasker.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We greatly appreciate and are in awe of the support we have been shown.

Pasker was a part of the approximately 2,800 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division deployed to Afghanistan. These Iowa soldiers reported to their mobilization station at Camp Shelby, Miss. in July 2010 for additional training and preparation before departing for the Afghanistan theater of operations. The unit arrived in Afghanistan in November 2010, where the soldiers provide full-spectrum operations in a combat theater, including lethal and non-lethal capabilities, support to Afghan National Army and Police units, and assistance to humanitarian relief efforts.
