Wednesday was a difficult day for The American Independent News Network, which is the larger entity that operates The Iowa Independent. Our chief executive and founder announced two of our sister sites would close and their content would be moved to The American Independent.
A recently introduced bill could have far-reaching impact on the U.S. sugar industry, including American Crystal Sugar, a farmer-owned cooperative that locked out 1,300 Midwest workers on Aug. 1.
The chairman for Herman Cain’s Iowa effort says the campaign “relied more on the word of farmers than Washington regulators” in deciding to run an ad containing claims the Environmental Protection Agency says are false.
BRUCE BRALEY RELEASE — As US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan ends, it’s more important than ever that our nation works to address the challenges faced by the men and women who fought there.
CHUCK GRASSLEY RELEASE — A difficult job market is challenging the soldiers, sailors and airmen who have protected America’s interests by serving in the Armed Forces.
TOM LATHAM RELEASE — No one has done more to secure the freedom enjoyed by every single American than our veterans and those currently serving in the armed services.
DAVE LOEBSACK RELEASE — Veterans Day is an opportunity to reflect on the service of generations of veterans and to honor the sacrifices they and their families have made so that we may live in peace and freedom here at home.
The campaign for Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has hit the Iowa airwaves, once again touting the candidate’s Iowa roots.
The ad, which begins by unceremoniously unveiling a new campaign slogan identifying Bachmann as a candidate that can unite voters, features Bachmann discussing her Iowa heritage.
“As a descendant of generations of Iowans, I was born and raised in Waterloo,” Bachmann says as an opening, before describing herself as a mother of five, foster parent, former tax lawyer and “now a small business job creator.”
She adds that voted against the “wasteful bailout … against the stimulus” and that she will not vote to increase the debt ceiling.
The campaign has not yet released details regarding the ad buy, but has stated that the ad began airing in Iowa Thursday.
So she won’t approve raising the debt limit. What WILL she do? Default on our bills? Is that how she runs her “business”? Not paying her bills if they are above the limit she promised herself she wouldn’t exceed?
It’s too late for that “strategy”. The bills are due. Pay them, regardless of what the self-imposed limit is. Otherwise you are on a path to bankruptcy, where you pay your creditors with the sale of your assets, or repossession of the collateral.
Is that Bachmann’s economic plan for America: bankruptcy?
Is there any surprise that her approach is rejected by the Democrats and the more level-headed leaders of the Republican party?
