Singleton on Palin: She can beat Obama

By Meghan Malloy | 07.07.11 | 7:00 am

Peter Singleton doesn’t consider himself former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin‘s “ground man” in Iowa.

The California resident, who “spends a lot of time in Iowa,” just considers himself “your average private citizen and grassroots activist who wants to have his voice heard. To say I’m the ‘man on the ground’ isn’t accurate, but I’m not offended.”

Yet, Singleton, an attorney, and his political opinion of Palin have circulated blogs and news articles ranging from the Wall Street Journal, to the Los Angeles Times, to The Atlantic, to even the U.K. Telegraph in Europe — some of which have dubbed him one of Palin’s top political operatives.

“I’ve never met Gov. Palin,” Singleton told The Iowa Independent, with a chuckle.

Yet Singleton has volunteered and organized grassroots organizations for Palin tirelessly, including recruiting supporters and volunteers for Organize 4 Palin during the former Governor’s recent trip to Pella for the premiere of the documentary “The Undefeated.” He visits the Hawkeye State repeatedly to continue garnering support for the woman he believes can defeat President Barack Obama in 2012.

“I believe she will run, in fact, it is a certainty she will,” Singleton told the Iowa Independent Wednesday, an idea he bases on his own opinion and analysis of her political movements so far compared to high profile Republicans who have declared candidacy. “Now, this is my opinion, so is there a chance I could be wrong? Well, sure. But based on what I have seen publicly, I just find it inconceivable she would sit 2012 out.”

Recently, former WHO Radio talk show host Steve Deace, commented on his website he had met with Singleton, and the pair started talking about the 2012 election, which is comprised of a host of GOP candidates yet to catch fire with Republicans and social or religious Conservative.

“I asked him point blank if he thought Palin was going to declare her candidacy, and his answer was ’100 percent,’” Deace wrote.

Strong words for a presidential prospect who has not formed a presidential exploratory committee, made copious appearances in early states like Iowa and New Hampshire, or has dropped indications that an impending announcement is on the proverbial horizon.

But, Singleton, who confirmed the meeting with Deace, said sometimes going against the grain is just as effective in an election cycle, rather than following the leader.

“Look, Gov. Palin is unique and has her own rules. She can’t do what other (candidates) do and just play it loose,” Singleton said. “While others are out just running for president, she’s actually demonstrating leadership. She actively opposed Obamacare, she opposed cap and trade. There is match between her track record of leadership and the needs of this country.”

And Palin, who has visited Iowa once since candidates have started their formal announcements for the White House, also has name recognition to carry a potential campaign.

“Just because she is making movements like the other candidates does not mean she’s not running,” Singleton speculated.

When asked if Palin — often scrutinized by media reports as being inexperienced in the political arena, and teased in parodies during her 2008 vice-presidential bid — could actually beat Obama if nominated, Singleton was upbeat.

“Absolutely,” he said. “Absolutely she can.”

haha, please please please run Sarah. That’d be awesome. And it’d be an easy win for the Dems.

Watch the video of Palin’s comments following the screening of The Undefeated in Pella, then watch video of any of 0bama’s unscripted comments, the differences is like day and night.  Palin would mop the floor with 0bama in a debate.  Singleton is right, she “absolutely can” win in 2012.

Follow this sentence stated by President Obama at the 7/7/2011 press conference:

“And so that mitigates against this danger that you’re suggesting that our main goal is going to be to kill these individuals as opposed to potentially capturing them.” (someone please diagram this sentence) – President Obama (aka smartest president ever) at Press Conference – July 7, 2011

      • Anonymous

So, you are suggesting our main goal in mitigating this danger is going to be to kill these individuals instead of eventually capturing them?
It is generally improper to start a sentence with the word “and”, and potentially is incorrect in the context of this sentence, eventually is a better choice. As this sentence is a interrogative, it should end with a question mark. This is my opinion only, as I am not a English Major, or teacher.

“…she’s actually demonstrating leadership.”  Really?  You mean like when she was governor of Alaska, and then quit?  Yeah, that’s leadership we need.

    • Anonymous

well lets compare how Alaska looked after 2 and a half years of Sarah Palin
and how the the US looks after Obama ………..and tell me who has better leadership skills

      • Anonymous

Right.  Timing had nothing to do with it.  Obama stepped in when the economy was already deeply in a tailspin, jobs were already disappearing, the gap between the richest and everyone else had been broadening for decades, and we had been embroiled for most of a decade in wars that were sucking us dry, but somehow these things are still his fault, because they didn’t magically end with his presidency.  The economic crisis may have been less severe because of his presidency, but there’s no way of proving or disproving that.

Sarah, on the other hand, served largely in absentia while campaigning in 2008, and then after returning to the work of governor, quit just as things were getting toughest nationwide.

you have a point that it is not completely his fold. But he did not lead to get it back on the right track he let the democrats in congress do whet ever they wanted i am not talking re his policy’s it seems to me he is there only to ride on air force one and to be with all the celebrates and to have fun i am not talking health care. but he only comes in like in last minute when he has no other choice  he is not there in the tick of the daily operations………i voted for him and i am really disappointed in him ……….
on the other hand Sarah read her emails you will see whats the definition of a leader is …………..

The recession ended in 2009. In the aftermath, we have President Obama governing under the slowest post-recession economy since The Depression.

He ran against the Bush economy knowing full well the tough condition it was in. He ran against Bush more than McCain-Palin as the solution. He has since increased our nation’s indebtedness by $3T in 22 months, and increased the federal budget by $1T.

I’ve read this argument ad nauseam  about Gov. Palin resigning from office in order to pass the baton to her Lt. Gov who worked hand-in-glove with her during her time in office.

You either are ignorant of the facts or willfully ignore them to follow the other lemmings off the cliff of rationality.

So, let’s try this again. When Gov. Pain resumed her position in 2008, she was met with hundreds of frivolous lawsuits, including one where the Palins were being sued for Piper selling Lemonade at her stand. Most of these lawsuits required the Gov’s time, personal expense, and State funds to fight them. Gov. Palin made the only logical decision and left office in the hands of her partner in office, who could carry forward their agenda without being encumbered by the lawsuits.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But no one is entitled to

From the July 3 Special Report with Bret Baier on FNC:

MOLLY HENNEBERG: Palin, the former GOP vice presidential nominee, said the decision had been in the works for a while. And she cited 15 ethics complaints against her, all that she has won, but have cost the state and her family a lot of time and money. After a bruising article this month in Vanity Fair magazine which called her 2008 election performance, quote, “disastrous,” and a recent back and forth with talk show host David Letterman about jokes he made about Palin and her daughter, today the Governor acknowledged the intensity of the spotlight.

if Palin does not run, Bachman is likely to get the GOP nomination… and of course beat Obama by a wide margin i believe that in 2008 Obama got elected by the confluence of several unusual occurrences: 1 an unpopular war 2 an unpopular president 3 a financial catastrophe 4 a contender (McCain) who ran the worst presidential campaign in recent memory 5 an unusual participation of blacks in the ballots 6 a successful slogan that resonated with frustrated voters: hope and change 7 a public that knew nothing of Obama and his deficiencies and was optimistic about the man, but now the public knows who Obama is and what he is not

    Poor Singleton.

Too many Republicans are forced to offer an affirmative response to that question in public that they know in their hearts really isn’t true.  It’s just the ‘politically correct’ response to the question that’s already been answered in the latest Iowa polls giving her less than 2% of the total.

Facts don’t support this politically correct response.

She can’t win the nomination, because she traded a failing governorship of a state with statistics that pale, even in comparison to that of dozens of major cities, for monetary gain and narcissistic thrill seeking.

Her unfavorable ratings are among the highest of any other announced or unannounced/potential candidate.  A recent poll showed 15 percent of voters would enthusiastically support her candidacy.

No support = no primary victories.

She can’t win the nomination with her small-time mayoral record and it’s dismal financial condition as a result of her tenure, the allegations of abuse of power, double talk and extrapolation of the record (Bridge to Nowhere, putting the plane on eBay isn’t ‘selling’ the plane on eBay), low-brow criticism of a sitting American President while on foreign soil, while cashing in from the speaker’s bureau, and the, ahem, record of failed ‘gravitas’ in matters of concern to the U.S. and the rest of the world.

If you can’t handle Katie Couric, you won’t have a prayer with Dmitry Medvedev.

You can’t rule the world with a bunch of index cards in your purse, or notes on your hand.

John McCain’s impulse is a curse on the Republican party that every other legitimate candidate will hold with disdain for the remainder of their political careers.  Sucking the air out of every room you visit and leaving practically nothing behind is not a noteworthy path to the White House, or anywhere else.

Her mysterious, self-serving guessing game on whether or not she’ll run is only to, once again, hit the snooze button on her 15 minutes of fame.  She knows that she can’t win, but, her fading ‘star quality’ is prolonged – until she finally puts the majority out of their misery and makes it official, no longer having the ability to milk the opportunity with the clock running against her.  Those who are holding on for her to announce that she’s running are living a desperate and rapidly dying fantasy.

Face it.  Her best days are behind her.

If she can’t get her nomination, she can’t beat Obama.
