Yesterday Iowa Independent published its third edition of the death watch of Arizona Sen. John McCain's Iowa campaign, which included the news that Marlys Popma, McCain's Iowa Coalitions director, was leaving the campaign.
But according to the Des Moines Register, Popma has changed her mind and will remain with the campaign after having been persuaded by McCain and others to "to sleep on it."
“I’m just reassured the campaign is going forward in the right direction in Iowa and that Iowa is important to the senator and to the campaign,” Popma told the Register. “I had some concerns it wasn’t, and those concerns have been completely taken care of.”
This is the first piece of good news McCain's Iowa campaign has received in a while. But it says a lot about the state of the campaign when convincing a top staffer to go back on her decision to resign is considered a bright spot amid the storm.
