Former Iowa GOP Gov. Terry Branstad’s two grown sons are working for different presidential candidates in Iowa, with Eric on board the Rudy Giuliani campaign as a co-chair for Polk County and the younger Marcus holding a field staff position for Mitt Romney in north-central Iowa.
Tim Albrecht, Romney's Iowa press secretary, said Marcus, a 2006 graduate of Buena Vista University, was with former U.S. Sen. Bill Frist's political action committee before joining with Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.
"Marcus does a great job," Albrecht said.
Albrecht added that Marcus Branstad's value is in his willingness to wear out some shoe leather in grassroots campaigning, not necessarily with getting any traction with Republicans because of his Iowa-famous father.
The Giuliani camp tells Iowa Independent that Eric is indeed a supporter of Hizzoner. The campaign originally announced Eric as Polk County chair
but later issued a statement saying he was a co-chair.
Branstad, who successfully cobbled together the small- government business wing of his party with activist Christians in four elections during the '80s and '90s, recenty told the Carroll Daily Times Herald that Giuliani will face challenges doing the same.
