It’s official! Vilsack planning challenge of King in new 4th District

By Lynda Waddington | 04.20.11 | 11:11 am

Former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack ended speculation Wednesday by launching a website in conjunction with a “Christie Vilsack for Iowa Exploratory Committee.”

Welcome! Thank you so much for taking time to visit my website. Vibrant communities and a healthy economy are crucial for our future, and your ideas about what we can do together are important to me as I consider running in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. That’s why I plan to spend the next several weeks visiting with residents and families throughout the district, and listening to what you have to say. In case we don’t see one another, please email me at and share your ideas about the kind of leadership and action you believe we need.

The newly formed 4th District combined Republican incumbents Tom Latham (existing 4th District) and Steve King (existing 5th District). Latham has since announced that he will move in order to challenge Democratic incumbent Leonard Boswell, who represents the existing 3rd Congressional District. King is expected to seek and win the Republican nomination in the newly formed 4th District, which would set up the general election contest between King and Vilsack.

In addition to the exploratory committee website, a Facebook Page, “Christie Vilsack for Iowa,” was launched Wednesday.

Mr. King can certainly use some competition from Christie Vilsack . I am so tired of his political diatribe and narrow mindedness. We truly need a leader that can represent the PEOPLE not a party or its paid PAC groups to inluence our representatives. God knows it is sorely needed in America . I applaud Christie’s tenacity and devotion that it will take to overcome Mr. King’s so-called domain in Western Iowa . Sincerely,
    Joseph Murray

I will 2nd that! Listening to that guy on national TV makes me embarrassed to admit I’m from Iowa. But then, I’m sure there are plenty of otherwise nice, normal people in Minnesota who feel the same way about King’s twin sister, Ms Bachmann. Rhetorical question: how do so many really stupid people rise to such high places in our society? Maybe I just don’t want to believe anyone can honestly agree with the things that come out of their mouths.
      GO CHRISTIE!!!

Bachmann, King, Palin,Trump, and the list goes on and on –come out of the woodwork to DIRECT us because they are ego-maniacs and sincerely believe they are just the PERFECT PERSON to lead us to our destiny in life . Beyond that they will distort the truth-or do whatever it takes to take the power reins away from us commoners or should I say past tense Middle Class people . The parties gravitate to those kind of people because they are vulnerable to the corruption of power and money . The old saying–”Absolute Power–Corrupts Absolutely” –comes to mind . I continue to believe that we will deservedly received a true leader that will come from the background and really listen to the PEOPLE whom make it all possible . None of the crap that we all go thru to get someone elected in America should be allowed to happen . IF we truly wanted a Representational Democracy we would put a end to all the money spent on campaigns etc . and allow each candidate the same amount of opportunities in the media and stop the mess we all witness at every election cycle . Both parties are guilty of it ! I think the MOST effective campaign strategy would be a complete renunciation of today’s party politics and take the election process directly to the people . No political spinners, etc. I think one hell of a lot of people who are at least quasi-intellectual and at the least have common sense are more than ready for that to happen . Sometimes, doing the opposite of the main stream wisdom is the smartest strategy . My vote or opinion would go for that candidate . I bet I am not alone with this opinion .

Hear hear! I would love to see the huge amounts of money squandered on lobbying and campaigning go to something more useful than buying votes for whoever has the most cash.
