A new poll indicates that less than half of Iowans are confident that Gov. Terry Branstad can achieve campaign goals.
Results from the Iowa Poll, conducted by Des Moines-based Selzer & Co. Inc. for The Des Moines Register, were announced Saturday.
Although Branstad was elected to a fifth term as governor by 52 percent of voters, poll results indicated that now only 45 percent of Iowans approve of his job performance. In addition, more than 75 percent reported being mostly skeptical that Branstad will be able to deliver on a key campaign promise: Increasing job opportunities in the state by 200,000 over five years.
When speaking only with Republicans, the survey found that 62 percent to be mostly skeptical Branstad can accomplish his five-year job target, and 72 percent doubt Branstad’s promise that incomes will rise by 25 percent.
The poll is based on 800 interviews with adult Iowans contacted between Feb. 13 and 16 by phone (traditional and cellular). The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
