Bachmann: Health care reform is the ‘crown jewel of socialism’

By Andy Birkey | 02.07.11 | 10:54 am

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was in Montana over the weekend raising money for Rep. Denny Rehberg, who announced his bid to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester. Bachmann said she’s become obsessed with repealing “Obamacare,” and that Republicans need to take over the United States Senate in order to shut down Obama’s “reign of error.”

“I take my first political breath every morning with one thought in mind — repeal Obamacare,” Bachmann said, according to the Missoulian. “That’s my motivation in life. … This bill is something else. It is the crown jewel of socialism. President Obama, and I’m willing to say it, ushered in socialism under his watch.”

“My opinion is we can’t shut this president down fast enough,” Bachmann said.

During her last visit to The Hawkeye State, Bachmann also brought up socialism in discussing health care reform legislation. When asked by The Iowa Independent to elaborate on how health care reform was “socialized medicine,” given the legislation included no government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers, Bachmann simply said it would lead to the “collapse of the private insurance industry.”

Bachmann’s trip to Montana comes on the heels of a visit to Hawaii earlier in the week. In two weeks, on Feb. 19, Bachmann will be heading to the early primary state of South Carolina for a fundraiser. On April 11, she’ll return to Iowa to participate in a lecture series organized by The Family Leader. She is openly considering a run for president in 2012.

Conservatives are so simple-minded. It is really getting to be quite hilarious. Maybe she should take an introductory political science course and then read the health care bill, and compare how and what socialism is and what the bill does. If she reads anything but the bs bible.

I read somewhere that only 25% of our insurance premiums get paid out as benefits. Putting the private insurance companies out of business would not hurt my feelings at all.

Bachmann got her law degree from Pat Robertson’s university. She thinks evolution is an evil plot put out by mad scientists who want to discredit the Bible at any cost.

Typical for the GOP, Bachmann offers no alternative. If she has a way for the millions of people who used to be involuntarily uninsured to get insurance WITHOUT government intervention then she should put it on the table. I certainly would prefer a non-government solution to the problem. But Bachmann and the GOP offer no other non-government solution.

Going around calling “Socialist! Socialist!” is not governing. And that is why she and the GOP are on a long-term trajectory towards obsolescence: they have no solutions.

Once again I ask the GOP to read Matthew 25:45 — “Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me”. Bachmann and the GOP don’t offer a solution to care for those in need of health care; they offer a “screw ‘em… let them take care of themselves” philosophy.
