Ever since his name was first floated as a possible vice-presidential candidate in 2008, it has been expected that former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty would run for president in 2012. But Wednesday another Republican from Pawlenty’s home state indicated that she is also contemplating entering the field. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is headed to Iowa this month and considering her 2012 options.
In an interview with Politics Daily, Pawlenty offers his take on Bachmann as a presidential candidate, avoiding saying anything negative about her, but far from offering his endorsement:
Well, it’s a free country. Anyone can run that’s over the age of 35. I have respect for Michele Bachmann. I’ve had a cordial and positive relationship with her.
Pawlenty himself will be in Iowa later this month promoting his book, visiting a Christian book store in Ankeny on the 30th and a Barnes & Noble in West Des Moines the next day.
