Both main parties are guilty and seem deathly afraid to discuss the real problems since there are no easy and non-painful answers. Instead we get "tax the rich- don't tax the rich...drill every thing-subsidize alternatives" crap. Where's the abortion debate? That was always popular to divide the masses over a non-issue.
