U.S. House immigration policy now in the hands of Steve King

By Elise Foley | 11.03.10 | 8:30 am

Of all the possible changes to come out of the election, the biggest potential shift in immigration policy will probably come from which party controls the House. Now that change is official: Republicans will lead the House, meaning immigration legislation will be in the hands of U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, who will chair the immigration subcommittee.

Republican positions on immigration — and particularly the positions of hardliners like King — will be a major change from how current Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other leading Democrats handled the issue. House Republicans have said they will focus on border security and immigration enforcement over potential reform to the legal immigration system.

King tends to be on the extreme end of anti-illegal immigration rhetoric: He favors changes to birthright citizenship to keep U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants from receiving citizenship and argues more states should pass immigration crackdowns like Arizona’s SB 1070. King has pushed for more border enforcement and an electrified  fence along the border to keep illegal immigrants out. “We do that with livestock all the time,” he said.

As head of the immigration subcommittee, King wants to call various leading Obama administration officials to hearings to ask them about immigration enforcement and, presumably, imply the administration does not want to deport people.

Of course, King won’t have ultimate power over the House Republicans’ priorities on immigration. The next House Speaker, John Boehner, will set a good deal of the agenda, and is likely to follow some of the plans hinted at in the Pledge to America, a vague but enforcement-heavy document released in September.

Hasn’t anybody told King that (legal) immigrants might exercise their 2nd amendment rights on him?

Illegals no not have “rights” in the USA — their “rights” are in their home country!

      • Anonymous

Oops, I misread that as “illegal” not legal.

Well, since activists for illegal aliens in california are talking about violence to ‘take what’s theirs’; yes, i think he has considered this.

Well their is a difference between illegal and legal. The legal imigrants do not have much of an issue as was shown on 20/20 about a month ago. Most legal imigrants don’t want them here either, it makes them look bad. My brother-in-laws parents came to this country the leagal way and the way they talk about the illegals would make you think they did not have the same ethnicity, but they do, they main difference is they are law abiding, self respecting people who love and respect the country (America) that has given them so much.

Hard to believe that some of our politicians are actually listening to the people. If you have not done so write your politicians and tell them that you are against illegal aliens coming to this country and dropping an anchor baby and that you want the 14th amendment changed. On-line, just type in the politicians name and the word immigration in a search engine to find out how they have voted or their opinion on immigration if they are not currently a politician. Then vote accordingly.
If you think they just drop one anchor baby you have a surprise coming. It is more like 10!! And you guessed it, you American, paid for each one of them to be born then their schooling, food, fuel and medical. Remember they are American citizens by the erroneously interpreted 14th amendment and are entitled to collect these benefits. The illegals know the system well and have infiltrated our institutions so that in some states it is required that spanish be spoken as well as english. So guess who gets the job when they apply? Yes it is the hispanic who then makes sure that all the other hispanics get the benefits.
A report the other day showed an illegal mother with her TEN anchor babies move on from Arizona to another state were she would feel more “welcome”. But they just come to make a living some will say. And have 10 babies on our dime!! That is not making a living that is taking advantage of our system.
I am not a racist. I embrace diversity. Changing our country to a hispanic culture does not embrace diversity. If I wanted to live in a hispanic culture I would move there but my home is here. What right do these people have to break into our country and then try to change it to suit them and take from the system and not give back. Throughout our entire history it has been the other way around and that has been what made us such a great country!!

WAell u can also blame this country for allowing it to happen. I am living a real life nightmare right now. an illegal alien got my son to marry her and start a family. She admits to him after the pregnancy occurs that she is undocumented. My son is reeling from this and overhears a conversation that she only married him to get legal. my son naturraly gets upset she calls the police and says he kicked her in the stomach prevented her from leaving slapped her and generally tried to beat her up. the cops came no marks on her since it didnt happen but off he goes to jail anyway. i get him out and she tells him he will never see his baby if he leaves her and tells him to sign a confession or she will disappear. being a naive 21 year old he agrees. Now they are embrioiled in a bitter custody fight in the US courts and in utah on top of that his own lawyer tells him he wont win. in the meantime the good old ICE give her legal status as she was “abused ” by an american citizen. what the HELL is wrong with this country??????

Hi, from another Janis. I am so sorry for the troubles you and your son are gong through! It is just plain WRONG! You are correct that it is our own countries fault for allowing it all to get this far! Makes my blood boil!
Would it help to write to Sen. McCain or Kyl? If you have not already I would recommend doing it.

Contact your Reps to fight the DREAM ACT. Also, create American jobs by reporting illegals and their employers to any official and new media that will listen. I even saw an add on line for young Mexican girls looking for American husbands.

You are so right. I live in Arizona and am unemployed. Many of the jobs I qualify for require bilingual spanish/english. The ads even say prefer spanish speaking. Some places in Tucson don’t even have english speaking customer service reps, like Walmart. If you ask someone for help, they just look at you dumbly and you ask “Do you speak english?”, and they say no. Also, gotta be careful ordering food at Los Betos, you can’t add or change anything on the menu because they get really confused and you never get the order right. Many places don’t even have signs in their stores in english!

@cking1432 Thanks cking yes as an activist with NumbersUSA I send hundreds of faxes a year to the hill. Warning those who fight the will of the people that their days are numbered in office. Many of those who fight us have lost their power in this last election but we are far from finished weeding out these traitors. Please join NumbersUSA if you have not already. It is one of the most powerful tools we have free access too but we need millions more like minded people in this country to speak up or forever hold their peace.

People Need to understand in this country that we are under attack from south of the border by people who do not have the best interests of the people of America. Their infiltration and destruction in this country costs Billions of dollars in damage to our ecology, economy and totally rapes our good hearted social systems. This country needs immediate action to stop all illegal immigration, immigration built this country but unchecked illegal immigration will destroy it as sure as a direct nuclear attack. I personally feel this country is on the verge of a war within its boarders if they government does not take immediate action against the open boarders and ports and deport all Illegals like they did after WWII. That action alone put millions of soldiers and citizens back to work and started the recovery of this nation. I feel sad for Mexico’s people and other people living in countries like that. But those are their home lands and if they are not willing to fight and fix it why on earth would an american wish to let them bring their sorry’s down upon us? At the rate this country is disintegrating we will be as broke and useless as any other poor nation on the planet within 10 years.

I think it is great!! Joliet, Illinois is little Mexico. I am tired of hearing spanish, seeing posts for jobs that they must be bi-lingual and just the total disrespect and abuse of American systems and laws. Illegal is breaking the law and a child (although not their fault) should not reap the benifits of their parents breaking laws, period no further discussion needed.

As a UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS VETERAN (disabled), I am VERY irritated at the LACK of CONCERN demonstrated continuously by the THREE STOOGES (STARRING): (DO-NOTHING) U.S. President obama, (NO CLUE IDIOT) Dept.of Homeland Security Secretary nopolitano, & (SENIOR SUCK-UP) Senator harry reid!! THEY KNOW THAT: ‘latinos’ are the fastest growing ‘voting block’ in the U.S. & EVERY hispanic organization has PLACED EACH OF THEM ON NOTICE!! TREASON IS A SERIOUS CRIME!!! THESE TRAITORS MUST ANSWER TO THE UNITED STATES CITIZENS FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!

I have sent messages to congress before, We have illegals with 3 or more sir names after they commit murder or some felony as child molesters, they go to mexico change their last known sir name and back over the border they come to grab another american job. We need our laws inforced without the sugar coating. English only, would save more money by cutting the cost of printing and sending to illegal addresses. No amnesty for adults or the children. I could go on.

It’s about damn time. Strip the citizenship of all those born to two illegals. If you can strip a U.S. Veteran of his bennefits then the same should apply to our invaders. Time to purge OUR Country of this disease.
