It was later pointed out by The Iowa Independent that those accusations were based on faulty information provided by a conservative blogger in Virginia.
On Oct. 29, Schultz saw criticism from some tying his law firm for its association with the controversial film incentive program.
Mauro, on the other hand, was endorsed by 11 GOP and 31 Democratic county auditors — seeing wide bipartisan support.
Mauro held his seat for four years, taking over after Democratic Gov. Chet Culver left the office to pursue his gubernatorial campaign.
