Branstad delivers rousing victory speech

By Matt Vasilogambros | 11.02.10 | 11:27 pm

Before an energetic crowd of several hundred Republican supporters at the Hy Vee Conference Center in West Des Moines, Gov.-Elect Terry Branstad gave a rousing speech, thanking his supporters for his clear victory over incumbent Democratic Gov. Chet Culver.

Standing next to his soon-to-be Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, Branstad praised the state senator for her dedication during the campaign. Branstad also thanked Culver for his gracious concession and his service to the people of Iowa.

“He is a true competitor,” he said.

Branstad explained how excited he was to win the seat after years away from the position.

“And tonight I’m more excited about the job ahead than I was when I took the job the first time,” he said. “You see, it’s a privalege to serve Iowans.”

Branstad said Iowans are the most hard working and God-fearing people in America. He then listed his priorities: improving education, bringing jobs back to the state and balancing the budget.

“We will balance our budget with not frills, no gimmics and no debt,” he proclaimed.

He concluded his speech by making a call to action for the crowd and for his new admission. Saying he was “ready to lead the change,” he said he was work hard toward “restoring Iowa.”

“Our work is not done, it has just begun,” he said.
