Watch judicial retention forum all day on Mediacom ‘on demand’

By Jason Hancock | 10.29.10 | 12:00 pm

The judicial retention forum sponsored by Simpson College and The Iowa Independent will be available all day Friday to Mediacom Communications digital customers. Access the forum for free by simply going to the “on demand” menu and clicking “My Government” followed by “Political Junkies.”  It will be listed under “Jud Retention.”

Mediacom Communications will also rebroadcast the event on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on MC22. The company plans to air the forum “network-wide,” which means throughout Iowa with the exceptions of Council Bluffs and Sioux City, markets the cable company does not serve.

The discussion, which was one of the final times each side of the debate over whether three Iowa Supreme Court justices up for retention this year should be ousted from the bench for their ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, included the following panelists:

  • Bob Vander Plaats, a former gubernatorial candidate who founded Iowa for Freedom, a group aiming to convince Iowans to vote “no” on retaining the three Supreme Court justices.
  • Nathan Tucker, a Davenport attorney, constitutional scholar and author of “We the People:  The Only Cure for Judicial Activism.”
  • Mark McCormick, a former associate justice of the Iowa Supreme Court who is now a shareholder with the Des Moines law firm Belin McCormick.
  • Robert Allbee, a former associate justice of the Iowa Supreme Court and former chief judge of the Iowa Court of Appeals.

McCormick and Vander Plaats will also appear Friday night and Sunday morning on Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press.”
