Wednesday was a difficult day for The American Independent News Network, which is the larger entity that operates The Iowa Independent. Our chief executive and founder announced two of our sister sites would close and their content would be moved to The American Independent.
Grassley signs on as co-sponsor of renewable energy standard bill
The renewable energy standard introduced by U.S. Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., and Sam Brownback, R-Kans., this week now has 25 co-sponsors. In fact, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley’s, R-Iowa, office confirms that he signed on Thursday as the fourth Republican co-sponsor, joining Brownback, Susan Collins of Maine and John Ensign of Nevada.
Earlier this week, Politico reported that Grassley may not vote for the RES, despite his previous support of the measure, because “I’m not going to be a part of one or two Republicans, get 60 votes, so they can have a partisan victory.”
The RES would require utilities to produce a certain percentage of electricity from renewable sources.
