According to the Des Moines Register, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign has spoken with an official at the Mississippi Fairgrounds about a possible trip to Davenport just as the Democratic National Convention in Denver gets under way:
Bob Fox, general manager of the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, said he met with Obama campaign officials this morning, who said they were planning a campaign stop in Davenport Monday.
Fox said a final decision about where the event would be held had not been made.
Obama is expected to announce his long-awaited choice for the vice presidential nomination between now and then. There is no word on whether the Illinois senator’s runningmate might accompany him to Davenport.
Update (1:00PM): In a press release, the Obama campaign has confirmed that Sen. Obama will stop in the Quad Cities as part of a “Battleground State Tour” leading up to his acceptance of the Democratic nomination at Denver’s Invesco Field. Still no word on the runningmate.
