Bryan Fischer, director of issue analysis for government and public policy for the American Family Association, says it’s not that he’s anti-gay or anti-Muslim, he simply anti-homosexuality and anti-Islam.
Fischer, who’s group is funding the effort to oust three Iowa Supreme Court justices up for retention vote this fall, was responding to a statement issued by People for the American Way condemning politicians who agreed to share the stage with Fischer at at the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit this weekend. The group points to Fischer’s long history of statements condemning homosexuals and Muslims, saying “By sharing a stage with Fischer, public figures like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Mike Pence, Bob McDonnell and Michele Bachmann don’t necessarily endorse Fischer’s shameless anti-Muslim and anti-gay propaganda — but they do acknowledge its credibility.”
Fischer explained his positions on his radio program Tuesday.
I am pro-gay; I am anti-homosexuality. I am pro-Muslim; I am anti-Islam.
I am for homosexuals because I want them to be delivered from the bondage and the death sentence of homosexual conduct. So I am against homosexual behavior, I am against homosexual expression, I am against homosexual conduct because I want to see the people that are trapped in that lifestyle, I want to see them set free.
And the same is true when it comes to Islam: I am for Muslims; I am against-Islam. And, as I mentioned before, the primary victims of Islam are Muslims. I mean, it’s got to break your heart when you visualize the life that these people lead in Muslim-dominated countries.
In the past, Fischer has said gays should be banned from serving in public office and that gays are no different from murderers, liars, thieves and slave traders. Most recently, he’s said Muslims could be guilty of treason, should be treated the same way neo-Nazis are treated in Germany and may be inferior due to years of inbreeding.
