Former speaker of the U.S. House Newt Gingrich is planning another stop in Iowa, and this time he’s doing it for the ladies.
Gingrich will be the special guest speaker for the People United for Republican Sisters’ Election (PURSE) political action committee on Friday, Aug. 13, in Clive.
The PAC was formed in the fall 2008 in an effort to both raise money that can be distributed to Republican women running for office and as a way to draw more women to the Republican Party. It aims to be inclusive, to focus on fiscal issues that impact everyone, and not dwell on often divisive social issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.
In Iowa, there is rarely any shortage of national political figures who are willing to stump on behalf of organizations affiliated with their particular party. Gingrich made five recent visits to Iowa and, as a rumored 2012 presidential hopeful for the Republicans, will likely be a frequent visitor to the first-in-the-nation caucus state.
