GOP Attorney General candidate Brenna Findley announced Monday that former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum will headline a fundraiser for her campaign Aug. 17 in Sioux Center. The trip will be the fifth to the Hawkeye State for Santorum, who is openly mulling a run for president in 2012.
He was in Des Moines last month to speak at the Republican Party of Iowa’s statewide convention. He made headlines shortly before his arrival by declaring in an interview with a local conservative blogger that President Barack Obama can’t, “identify with the average American because of his own background. Indonesia and Hawaii.”
Also last month, he keynoted the Scott County Lincoln Club Luncheon and held a fundraiser for state Senate candidate Sandy Greiner. Last October, he delivered two speeches: one at an event sponsored by Iowa Right to Life and another at an event sponsored by the American Future Fund. He headlined an Iowa Christian Alliance fundraiser in March and spoke at a luncheon hosted by the Pottawattamie County Republican Party a week later.
Findley, who held a fundraiser last month with U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is hoping to unseat Democratic Attorney General Tom Miller. Details of the Santorum visit have not yet been announced.
