D.C.-based newspaper The Hill is reporting that U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, has been added to the Democratic National Committee’s growing list of Republicans they say are “Big Oil’s best friends.”
The group, which the DNC is calling “BP Republicans,” includes King; GOP U.S. Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Joe Barton of Texas; and Senate hopefuls Sharron Angle of Nevada and Rand Paul of Kentucky.
From The Hill:
Momentum on the issue has grown since Barton, the ranking member on the House Energy Committee, apologized to BP CEO Tony Hayward during a Congressional hearing two weeks ago, calling the White House’s response to the crisis a “shakedown.” King, Bachman, Paul, and Angle have echoed Barton’s sentiments to the press.
The site also links to a poster of Sarah Palin that calls her the “original BP Republican.”
During a radio interview shortly after Barton’s comments, King called the Texas Republican “spot-on.” While speaking to WHO-AM’s Jan Mickelson, King said politics is partially to blame for the Obama administration’s response to the BP oil spill disaster, saying help has been delayed because the president is a Democrat and the governor of Louisiana is a Republican with presidential aspirations.
