Mary Jane Cobb
Board members for the Iowa State Education Association didn’t have to look far when seeking a replacement for Jan Reinicke, who has served as ISEA executive director since 1998. The board selected eight-year organizing veteran Mary Jane Cobb to serve as executive director.
Cobb, who served as a National Education Association campaign and elections field representative, also had experience with the Alabama Education Association. Because of her background, local activists believe that Cobb will bring a wealth of experience in the realm of membership organizing and political action.
Reinicke, a native Iowan, began working with the ISEA in 1980 and was promoted to executive director in January 1998. Cobb will assume the duties of executive director when Reinicke officially retires on Sept. 1.
The ISEA is a professional organization comprised of more than 33,000 Iowa educators. The organization’s executive director oversees nearly 70 professional and support staff.
