Vilsack's political career was damaged the minute he thought he could be president and what is he now? A nobody, former governor with ZERO power or influence.

Edwards could have really took down the democrats in 08 and he hurt his family. The media covers Edwards affair but ignores McCain's record of infidelity. Figures.

I am not defending Edwards here, and I agree that he should not have run for president under the circumstances:

That said, it's a bit much for high-profile Clinton supporters to say extramarital affairs should be disqualifying for politicians. The fact that Bill Clinton got away with it and managed to be elected twice is probably what gave Edwards unreasonable hope.

Nora,there are significant differences noted by those who care to look. Edwards lied to the public. His wife was complicit so that they might be president. She is facilitating his past and future bad behavior by staying with him. His campaign misused money to keep it quiet. He used his “wholesome” family image in his campaign when it was a lie. The lib press hid the story. An aid is taking heat to deflect the truth about the baby. The girl friend is given substantial profit in return for not allowing a blood test. One is “private” the other very public. But of course, these are the same lib democrats who stood behind Clinton.

Edwards has an affair, admits it to his family (the only ones he needed to admit it to), stays with his wife, and his career is damaged irreparably.

McCain has an affair, dumps his "damaged" wife and is the presumptive Republican candidate for the presidency.

Yeah, that's about right.
