The debate over U.S. policy between toward Iran between hard-liners led by Vice President Dick Cheney and supporters of diplomacy like Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice continues apace, the New York Times reported today.
Iowa Independent previously examined this issue, noting that an unnamed Cheney aide was making the case for a hot war behind the scenes. Today we learn from the Times who that aide was:
"Only a few weeks ago, one of Mr. Cheney’s top aides, David Wurmser, told conservative research groups and consulting firms in Washington that Mr. Cheney believed that Ms. Rice’s diplomatic strategy was failing, and that by next spring Mr. Bush might have to decide whether to take military action."
This article was one of the lead pieces in today's Times, though the story adds little new information. It seems indicative, however, that while the forces for diplomacy "appear to be winning so far", the debate is far from over.
