Blogs for Borders arrives in Postville

By Lynda Waddington | 07.27.08 | 12:51 pm

Jake and MJ, two videographers associated with Blogs for Borders, were able to raise the necessary funds to make the trip from their home in the Chicago area to Postville. They plan to document the march and demonstration as well as the counter-demonstrations that have been planned.

“We thought it was important to be here today because we don’t always think the media paints a fair picture of both sides on this issue,” MJ said. “We are here today with plans to document it all.”

Because the May 12 immigration raid on Agriprocessors in Postville was the largest single-site action in the nation’s history, Jake said that the community has become “one of the central fronts in the national immigration debate.”

“Obviously, there were people here who had come into this country illegally,” he said. “There are many people who are coming to Postville today who are saying there should be no enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws.”

I read that 127 rental properties owned by galinvestments.com were left vacant by the raid on the illegal immigrants. Last time I rented a apartment I had to show several pieces of ID.

So if a terrorist sleeper cell wanted to rent all 127 vacant properties, galiinvestments would be either unaware or complacent in aiding them?

The Mayor, the Landlords, and the Employers who are helping people stay and work here illegally, should all be prosecuted. You are giving away America for your own personal monetary gain. Thanks.

I do not understand why some Americans get upset when foreigners come to America and get jobs by forging social security (SS) cards, and other legal documents, then get caught by INS or ICE.

Do you think if we went to Mexico, or any other foreign country would tolerate us when we expected these countries to provide us work and welfare? I don’t think so. If we committed a crime in these countries, they would not be so tolerant. Then why do some American people and other countries feel America is wrong for enforcing laws when illegals break our laws? Why is America expected to allow anybody and anyone into our great country illegally?

When the illegals come to America, they know the consequences for themselves and family. It is not the responsibility of America to be responsible for illegals’ broken families when the illegal are deported.

Bottom line is, identity theft and SS fraud is illegal and should be prosecuted whether a US citizen or an illegal alien. If I performed identify theft or SS fraud, I would be prosecuted, but not so for the illegal aliens. Why?

I sure hope this great country wakes up and realizes we must take care of our country and those who enter our country legally. Thanks.

I think it would serve Postville better if they were more honest about the current situation. Your looking at smuggled child labor here, your looking at child abuse. To attempt to gloss over that reality is not healthy for the community. This is not about immigration. This is about smuggling children into the United States illegally to be used as labor for profit. This was never a case of lack of labor for this or any other industry in America but one of corruption and greed which I believe is a direct result of our lack of discipline as a society today.

To Sonja: You are right on. The traitors in Postville, allowed these illegals and their crimes to exist. It is beyond immoral, criminal, treasonous and disgusting. It is because of the traitors amongst us, that illegal immigration has thrived. Justice must prevail for all true U.S. citizens and our children.

    Suzie and Sonja,

Wow, I’m sure glad that I don’t live in the country the two of you seem to be evisioning. “Traitors”, “disgusting”, “vile place to live” are all really strong words for people you’ve probably never met. It makes me wonder what kind of neighbors you’d be in this country if things really got bad.

I agree. The issue of illegal immigration is one thing. But the of illegal or any other kind of CHILD labor is a vicious, reprehensible thing. Whether the children are being sexually molested or molested as virtual slaves working long, dangerous hours in sweatshop conditions, it is a felony and should be prosecuted to the max. These profiteering, greedy businessmen should have been the first to be sent to the penitentiary, BEFORE the illegals!!!!!!
