POSTVILLE — The fellowship hall at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church is filled with music and (literal) signs of frustration as the visit by the U.S. Congressional Hispanic Caucus gets underway.
Prior to the detainees — those released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on humanitarian grounds — speaking personally to the Congressional visitors, a music band comprised of young Hispanic boys played. The backdrop is a series of homemade signs that decry the plight of the immigrants that remain in Postville.
The signs read, in part:
“We want liberty. We aren’t criminals. We only want to work for our family.”
“We want our day in court. We don’t want to live off charity.”
“ICE — What is going to happen to us?”
