Rasmussen poll finds Culver approvals at 41 percent

By Jason Hancock | 02.22.10 | 1:30 pm

The latest Rasmussen poll has more bad news for Democratic Gov. Chet Culver, showing only 41 percent approval and 57 disapproval.

In a head-to-head matchup with two potential GOP candidates, Culver loses to former Gov. Terry Branstad by 16 percentage points and Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats by four percentage points. The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.

Rasmussen’s poll is actually better news than last week’s Des Moines Register Iowa Poll, which found Culver with a 36 percent approval rating and losing to Branstad by 20 percentage points.

Research 2000 also polled Iowa and found Culver with a 42 percent approval rating and losing to Branstad by 16 percentage points.

Frankly, I would have expected Rasmussen to show at least a 25-point margin if Selzer for the DMR found Branstad ahead by 20. A 16-point lead is surely bad, but in the same range that other pollsters have found.

Couldn't figure out the BVP numbers. The Rasmussen write-up said Culver trailed BVP by four, but his chart said BVP 46, Culver 40.
