Iowa Speaker of the House Pat Murphy, D-Dubuque, is the latest state politico to offer his voice for use by marriage equality advocates on an automated call.
The recording, which was received by several Iowans Thursday, pitches the upcoming “Red Blue Purple” campaign kickoff scheduled for Sunday in Des Moines.
This is Speaker of the House Pat Murphy. I’m calling to invite you to a special campaign kick-off for equality, Red Blue and Purple, on Jan. 10, at 3 p.m., at the Des Moines Social Club. On the eve of the legislative session we need to stand together, united for equality — Republicans and Democrats, people of faith and good will, gay and straight, young and old.
Come show your solidarity and support for equality at a special campaign kick-off on Jan. 10, at 3 p.m., at the Des Moines Social Club.
The call ends with a “paid for” message by One Iowa, the state’s largest gay rights organization and one of 71 Iowa groups that have formed a coalition to oppose a constitutional amendment that would end same-sex marriage rights in Iowa.
In November, former Republican Lt. Gov. Joy Corning also recorded a call for the organization, requesting that Republicans support same-sex marriage.
