Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, was a guest on Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” Tuesday, and the four-term lawmaker didn’t disappoint.
The Associated Press focused on King’s prediction that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will run for president and stands a good shot at winning Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.
“I think we’ll see her in Iowa,” King said. “There are a good number of people who could win the Iowa caucuses and I would put her in the top five or so who would be in a good position to do so.” …
… “Sarah Palin, of course, is the one who has the charisma, she has the momentum,” said King. “If she decides to come to Iowa, she has no problem drawing a crowd of tens of thousands.”
Lee Enterprises reporter Charlotte Eby reported King’s claim that in order to expand their base and hold on to power, Democrats are working to create a “dependency class” in America.
“We’re descendents in this part of the country from people who came across America in covered wagons,” King said. “I mean, they came here to live free or die on the prairie. They didn’t ask for a government handout.”
Radio Iowa’s O.Kay Henderson picked up on King’s statements regarding the alleged terrorist who attempted to blow up a plane bound for Detroit last week. He said the suspect should be taken to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and put before a military tribunal. He then repeated his opposition to moving prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to Illinois.
”And we’re going to set them 15 miles from the Mississippi River? Fifteen miles from Iowa? And grant them constitutional rights? The worst of the worst?” King says. “Two of them that were released from Gitmo were half of the four perpetrators who were strategists, planners for this Christmas Day bombing.”
King’s appearance on “Iowa Press” will air Friday and Sunday on IPTV.
