Iowa Christian group says winter storm evidence of ‘divine sense of humor’

By Lynda Waddington | 12.09.09 | 11:33 am

The Iowa Family Policy Center’s action arm is noting in an e-mail to supporters Wednesday that the blizzard impacting Iowa and other parts of the Midwest is evidence of God’s sense of humor since it coincides with the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Divine Sense of Humor?

Does anyone else see the humor in how God timed what the National Weather Service has called an “epic and extremely dangerous” winter storm to coincide with the UN Climate Change Conference? Despite the recent publication of e-mails indicating key scientific data used by the UN to justify alarmism over so-called global warming was likely falsified, the limo driving, jet setting, eco-warriors are determined to press ahead with policies that would increase the cost of energy, stifle industry, and threaten jobs

IFPC Action encourages stewardship of God’s creation rather than the earth worship that seems to lie just beneath the surface of most climate change propaganda…

The e-mail message marks the second time in the past week that IFPC has questioned the scientific community’s consensus regarding climate change. In an e-mail dated Dec. 2, the organization linked to and quoted from a Web site jointly partnered by several religious organizations that contains a declaration that has been signed by several religious and conservative leaders including James Dobson, U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), U.S. Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), Rev. Manny Torres, radio entertainer David Wheton and Wendy Wright, current president of Concerned Women for America.

According to the site, the billions of people worldwide in poverty would be further oppressed and victimized by climate change legislation. Action items on the site advocate many of the same items that non-religious environmental and conservation groups have pushed for several years (i.e., lowering use of public drinking water and recycling used clothing and electronics).

The IFPC noted in the e-mail a recently adopted position statement: “Over-taxation forces parents to work longer hours, spend less time parenting, and creates disincentives for handling social problems at their proper levels.” The correlation was that increased taxation would be necessary if governments intended to address climate change.

“Man is the most indispensable resource on the face of the plant, and any attempt to reduce alleged anthropogenic global warming must be balanced against the harm it might cause,” wrote WallBuilders President David Barton, one of the founding signers of the declaration. “History repeatedly reaffirms that solutions to major problems — whether economic, medical, educational, scientific, etc. — come not from government-implemented programs but rather from unfettered free-market solutions. The proper care of creation and the environment will be no different, and that is a care to which most Christians are committed.”

President Barack Obama, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and numerous other government officials and American scientists have or will gather in Copenhagen for the U.N. Climate Change Conference. Despite the appearance of e-mail messages hacked from a British university’s server, and several conservative American groups pointing to their content as evidence that climate change is a hoax, the vast majority of scientists throughout the globe have reiterated their belief that countries throughout the world must act now in order to save the planet.

Bad weather apparently brings out the whacky.

You might want to have a more defined headline than this. The FPC is more than just a another “chirstian” group. It's a right-wing political organization. There are plenty of organized Christian who believe climate change is real.

The funny thing is, in some areas, climate change could cause more snow and intensity storm systems. We also remain in the warmest decade on record. Guess the joke was on them?

And what if they are misinterpreting God's tempest? What if this is punishment for the IFPC's persecution of gays and lesbians in Iowa?

Have you guys heard of Climategate? You know a bunch of scientists over in the UK who have been trying to hide findings that the earth has been cooling for the last decade? The whole thing is a sham.

You mean “Illegal-email-hacking-gate?” Yes, I'm aware of the email hackings that were used to take private communications out of context to try and discredit scientists conveniently just prior to the Copenhagen Convention.

As far as your misunderstanding of what “hide the decline” means, the email was referring to a mysterious decline in the climate proxy data that differed from the more accurate thermometer data. It's called the divergence problem and is not a secret to anyone who pays attention to climate science.

And if we have been cooling for the last decade, how is it that every source of global temperature estimation for this decade shows a warming trend? And how can 2000-2009 be the warmest decade on record?

Thank goodness for W Scott Lincoln. Someone who understands what climate change really means. Prior to this nation-wide winter storm, here in Connecticut, we were experiencing record HIGH temperatures. Climate change, or global warming, does not mean we are not going to have winter temperatures in the winter months. It means we are going to have warmer temperatures on average for the entire year accompanied by very intense hurricanes, tornadoes, monsoons, blizzards and other types of storms. This nation-wide winter storm is just another verification of the global warming scientists have been warning us about for centuries. The first scientist to predict global warming did so 200 years ago. Since the 1950's scientists have been explaining how mankind is warming the planet through the burning of fossil fuels. It is obvious that the Iowa Family Policy Group understands nothing about climate change and their casual dismissal of scientific evidence to support global warming should come as no surprise. After all, this organization represents and is run by people who believe the earth is only 6,000 years old.
