Gov. Chet Culver has set Nov. 24 as the date for a special election to fill the vacancy in Iowa House District 33. The election was made necessary by the resignation of Rep. Dick Taylor (D-Cedar Rapids).

The district includes 11 precincts, primarily in southwestern Cedar Rapids.

Candidates with either the Democratic or Republican parties will be nominated by political party convention. Any person interested in running as either a Democrat or Republican should contact the local party.

Those who wish to run for the House seat, but are unaffiliated with a party, may file nomination papers in the office of the Secretary of State before 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.

Candidates who are affiliated with a non-party political organization may appear on the ballot either by filing nomination papers with the Secretary of State, or by nomination of their organization’s convention.
