State Sen. Jeff Angelo, the Creston Republican and ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, says he's intrigued by how many western Iowans are talking to him about illegal immigration.

In his Web log — www.angeloangle.blogspot.com — and in an interview with Iowa Independent Angelo says he thinks illegal immigration will be a strong undercurrent in 2008. Here is part of his blog:

People are not against those from other countries coming to America–but, to a person, they are concerned that illegal immigration is a massive security threat. The unfortunate fear that exists in all of us is that another domestic attack may be imminent. The frustation that residents feel is that we aren't engaging in any common-sense policy that ultimately would stave off some potential attacks. Imagine the media reporting, following an attack, how easily that attack could have been prevented. Citizens wonder why their government can't be more proactive then reactive.
