Andrew Roos, a 34-year-old Democratic operative with experience working gubernatorial campaigns in Indiana, Delaware and Virginia, has been tapped to run the 2010 re-election campaign of Gov. Chet Culver.

Roos ran Democrat Jack Markell’s successful campaign for governor in Delaware last year. Markell won after squeaking out a come-from-behind win over then-Lt. Gov. John Carney in the Democratic primary.

Earlier this year, Roos ran the Virginia gubernatorial campaign of Brian Moran, who came in third in a hotly contested three-way Democratic primary. He has also done work for campaigns in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Culver also named Jesse Harris as deputy campaign manager. Harris’ experience includes working as the Iowa Director of the SEIU Change that Works campaign as well as coordinated campaign director for the Iowa Democratic Party. He was field director for Gov. Culver’s 2006 campaign and has worked for U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin as well as the presidential campaign of former Gov. Tom Vilsack.

Earlier this summer Culver named Teresa Vilmain, who became a legend among Democratic Party professionals after playing a key role in former Gov. Tom Vilsack’s come-from-behind victory in 1998, as senior adviser to his re-election campaign. In March, John Kirincich joined the campaign. He is a former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall of Georgia, chair of the Georgia Democratic Party and was a chief adviser for an unsuccessful campaign for governor in 1998 and another for Congress in 2002.

Longtime Iowa Democratic strategist and Culver staffer Pete D’Alessandro serves as political director of the Chet Culver Committee.
