Video: Davenport’s Vietnamese Community Celebrates Lunar New Year
The Vietnamese community in the Quad Cities gathered Saturday in Davenport to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
The Tet celebration, attended by more than 1,500, featured traditional dance and music performances as well as solemn ceremonies honoring ancestors.
For the thousands of Vietnamese immigrants making their homes in the Quad Cities, Tet marks the beginning of the new year. This year is the Year of the Rat, which signifies a year for new beginnings.
The event was attended by Most Rev. Martin Amos, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Davenport, as well as Iowa Lt. Gov. Patty Judge and Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba.
