Condescension Re: They are the woman I went to high school with who stunned me by appearing, waving a Barack Obama sign, no less, at one of his events in Carroll. Surely, she must have an "American Idol" re-run to watch, I thought. No, she's caucusing for Obama."

Surprised that someone you went to school with has your social conscience and sense of civic engagement? Not a becoming trait, such condescension.

By the way, a debate over whether a total contrivance like the DEM caucus is a better use of time than American Idol...that might be one worth having.

Friends and Family Republicans I'm a political junkie and huge Obama supporter — I've even canvassed for him in Iowa. I read everything I can about the primary, but your point about people noticing that their Republican friends and family don't hate Obama — that some even say they'd consider voting for him — and in the next breath say, “But never Hillary” (and I even heard for the first time at Christmas, “But never Edwards”)… well, you're right. Those conversations have an impact. Once it's shown to you, it's so obvious. If I were in Iowa and truly undecided, would I throw my lot in with the candidate I've heard repeatedly from family/friends they will not vote for, or would I caucus for that smart, young guy everyone seems to like? Excellent point, thank you.

Obama in Springfield I too decided for Obama after hearing the February 10th announcement. I was in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the time and I decided to support him with everything I could.

I recruited some friends and we filmed a documentary of the Barack Obama campaign. We spent time in New Hampshire, South Carolina, New York City, and finally in Iowa.

Who can beat the republicans? I'd pick Obama as most electable. He's 4-7 points better than Clinton in poll averages of head-to-head matchups (realclearpolitics.com). He has a much more uplifting and unifying tone than the angry, recently adopted populism of Edwards (who will also be very low on cash thanks to his acceptance of federal matching funds). If the DMR polls are to be believed, he has massive appeal among independents and even moderate Republicans despite the fact that his policies are as progressive as they come.

These are very nice things to have in a Democratic general election candidate.

Respectfully disagree Iowans always try to pick the person they think can beat the Republican. Democrats believe Hillary is that one, or possibly Edwards. But we'll find out soon enough.
