As a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Grassley is in a prime position to steer the direction of the health care reform legislation. However, Mr. Grassley has monetary conflicts with the health care legislation, having received substantial contributions from the health care industry.

According to opensecrets.org, the Pharmaceutical/Health Care Products industry, gave Mr. Grassley $129,350 in the time period 2005 – 2010. Health Professionals gave $170,906. Additionally, two other health care-related industries contributed large amounts: Insurance gave $137,848; Hospitals/Nursing Homes gave $98,637.

We need more discussion of the parties who may be co-opted by contributions from the health care industry. Delving into the financial operations of HMOs and other health care providers would be welcome and appropriate in light of the overhead costs, such as political contributions, that they incur that could be spent on patient care instead.

The Democrats are not being truthful about public health insurance. The $611 billion over 10 years cost for public health insurance the Democrats have come forward with is laughable. 2009 spending on health care was $3 trillion in the US and increase $300 billion annually.

What about the doctors that have mortgages, business loans and need to pay employee salaries? They'll have to cut employees and default on their loans because they'll get stiffed by the government public health insurance.

Public health insurance will take hundreds of billions of dollars out of the economy annually. Do you want prosperity or poverty?

It's time to take away federal empolyee health insurance so these vermin can feel the pain like the rest of us. Maybe they wont be so pompous.

The scum is in the pocket of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, so it doesn't surprise me that he doesn't give a hoot about the citizens of his own state. Can't wait til he's up for re-election.

It's good that people are getting out and asking the questions, but it would be even better if all members of Congress would get on the record about where they stand on health-related issues. I hope that this term Senator Grassley will respond to Your Congress-Your Health (www.yourcongressyourhealth.org) so all Iowans can see his positions in a clear, concise way.
