This qoute is only kinda true. Larry had several older freinds in Washington county that are big R's that voted for him. They got Larry closed enough to victory that the Johnson county people put him over the top. Larry runs again right now he loses by 500 votes minimum.

Rep. Marek is beholding to big business and gambling interest in Washington County. If labor unions or activist from Johnson County think Marek will vote with them in 2010 they are joking themselves. Marek will take money from labor & key democratic activist from Johnson County but when the tough votes come down next year it will be for big business and gambling interest (Dan Kehl).

One more thing. If Larry does run again the unions are sure to run someone against him in the primary. This means he win need to win the lottery to have enough cash to compete without the Truman Fund and Union money.

Correction – Rep. Marek will need to hit the trifecta at the dog track in Dubuque or horse track in Des Moines for some real campaign cash. I don't think Kehl or his board members can match the money the Truman Fund gave out last year to Rep. Marek.

The casino lobby is about the only group that is happy with Larry after his first session in Des Monies. He got close to $300,000 from the Party this last cycle. He will be lucky to get anything from the unions and the truman funds next time around.

Rep. Larry Marek will need to double down on his campaign contributions from Casino boss Dan Kehl and the Riverside Casino Board of Directors. Larry will need a lot more than the $5,000 in campaign contributions he received from Kehl & the gang in 2007 & 2008. I would seriously doubt Larry will receive any union PAC contributions or individual donations from the People's Republic of Iowa City in his 2010 reelection bid.

Larry was just trying to give his voters what they want to hear. He knows that Murphy and McCarthy Will never let that vote happen. He looks like he is tough on gay marriage with his voters but really is not interested in fixing the problem.

BTW: Larry is a one termer. Local report say he isn't even going to run again. I guess well see if he is at the local parades this summer.

I reject the Republican framing that says voting to write discrimination into the state constitution is some kind of neutral vote to “let the people decide.”

If Marek wants that amendment on the ballot, let him stand up and admit that he would like to ban same-sex marriage in Iowa.
