According to the Department Of Justice and major university studies, fewer than 10% of sex offenders re-offend. Plus, many are on the registry for non-violent crimes (i.e. urinating in public).
These idiot politicians need to stop lying about who is on the registry and start differentiating. The list now even includes teenagers who exchanged a nude photo of themselves with their cellphones (aka "sexting") and for having consensual sex with other teenagers (www.rickyslife.com).
Also, most sexual abuse comes from people known by the victim as opposed to strangers. So it is obvious that residency laws are ineffective.
The original intent of Megan's Law was to only monitor truly dangerous offenders and that is what the law should be now.
